Who can apply?

Any student in grade VIII (or Year 9) in any public or private school in Romania. An excellent academic record, a positive attitude towards learning and a drive for personal development are required to apply. You can read the applicant's profile here.

The detailed steps

Step 1

Submit your file between 1.03.2024-29.03.2024

The application file needs to include the following documents:

The completed file needs to be scanned and sent via e-mail using the following subject: Application file for to: inscrieri@transylvania-college.ro.

Feedback after the application process: the school will contact the applicants who qualify for the next step and it will inform the ones who do not qualify.

Step 2

Exams: 25.04.2024 & 26.04.2024

The qualified candidates will receive an invitation to sit the entrance exam which consists of 3 different tests:

  • English (written)
  • Mathematics (written, in English)
  • CAT4 Exam - computerized test for assessing the candidate's potential and key areas of interest.

Feedback after the exams: the school will contact the finalists, to invite the students and their families to interviews with the Scholarship Committee. The qualified candidates for the interview will receive the updated arrangements regarding the date and all the procedures in place for this step.

Step 3

Interview: 25.05.2024

The last phase of the application process will include only those candidates who have successfully completed the first two steps. The candidates who have qualified for this phase will be invited to meet the members of the Scholarship Committee. The interview will be in English. The candidates' parents will also be invited to a meeting with the Scholarship Committee, on the same day as the candidate's interview. The meeting with the parents may be held in Romanian.

The scholarship committee includes local and international business representatives, parents and school's representatives who have committed to supporting excellence in education.

Awarding a scholarship

  • The scholarship covers between 30% and 100% of tuition for all four years of high school.
  • The number and the value of the scholarships awarded will be determined by the Scholarship Committee.
  • The Scholarships are awarded to candidates on the basis of excellence demonstrated through a competitive assessment process.
  • The scholarships are awarded by the Scholarship Committee after careful consideration of the student's profile, academic performance, extracurricular activities and interests, as reflected in the student’s application file, personal and ethical values as reflected on their personal essay and during the interview, special circumstances.
  • The scholarships are awarded at the discretion of the Scholarship Committee. During the selection process, the committee may require additional proof of special circumstances, or financial need, in order to make a final decision in choosing the winners.
  • This program does not discriminate based on race, culture, gender, sexual orientation, disability, socio-economic status, or other no merit factors.

Maintaining a scholarship

  • Scholarships are awarded for the entire High School (four years).
  • Continuation is dependent on maintaining high standards of behaviour and performance.
  • Scholarships are subject to informal annual review which takes place at the end of the school year.
  • Scholars are expected to act as role models and ambassadors for Transylvania College and may be asked to interact with visitors and prospective families, special guests, mentors, supporters of the programme, media representatives.
