At Transylvania College we focus on teaching the whole child, therefore enrichment programmes and extracurricular activities become as important as academic success.
We value having a strong school ethos, and we cherish the partnerships we have developed with all the families in our community and with the friends of our school. Many of the programmes listed here couldn’t be implemented without the support of the parents in our community, or without the contribution of our partners.
Our students are offered a wide array of programmes and activities aimed at preparing them for future life:
The Leader in Me process (adapted for secondary school as LEAD) is the vehicle by which teachers can apply and teach students about the 7-habits in the classroom. The goal is that through living the 7 Habits and being highly effective in all aspects of their lives, the students will end up developing personal leadership skills.
At Transylvania College, the Leader in Me process is delivered primarily through PSHE from early primary, but also through other events, role modelling by teachers. The older students are encouraged to read The Seven Habits of Highly Effective Teens and other books linked to the programme.
We are one of 7 schools internationally involved in the ERASMUS+ : “The Future in our Hands, Creating European Entrepreneurs” project. The other participant schools are located in Cyprus, Finland, Slovenia, Turkey, Spain and Bulgaria.
The ECO Team students are involved in various environmental preservation and recycling activities .The school is registered for the Eco-School programme, and received the Green Flag Award in Bucharest, in October 2015.
Our Music Department also supports the students’ involvement in international and cultural activities, through specific projects and events, such as:
Our HOUSE System (Red Bears, Blue Wolves & Golden Eagles) has developed a collegiate approach, with students mixing across year groups and interacting with older and younger students. There are various inter-House competitions and House Assemblies.
An independent and varied programme of Enrichment and After-School activities give our students opportunities to engage in a wider choice of sports, language, entrepreneurial and craft clubs. This programme also assists parents with work commitments as it runs from 4.00 to 6.00 pm.
The school produces various shows (Christmas, Easter, end of academic year), and enters students in local, national and international Drama competitions.
From 3:10 PM-4:00 PM, Monday through Thursday all the students in Primary and Middle School have the opportunity to participate in Enrichment Activities that are offered free of charge by teachers in the school. The aim of these activities is to contribute to the well-rounded education we provide at Transylvania College and also to help with the development of a strong sense of community, as students from various classes participate together in the activities they choose.
